In a mythical world where humans and gods co-exist, a ceremony marking the new governing princess is about to occur for the first time in 60 years. Only a girl from the Hime Clan may take this position, but the lack of females born to this family means that a boy called Arata must pose for the role. Meanwhile in modern-day Japan, a boy named Arata Hinohara is starting his new life in high school. He wants to put memories of his difficult past behind him, but things aren窶冲 going to be simple when he discovers a mysterious connection to the first Arata...

It was surprising to see the art style switch, but if all shounen was like this I could get used to it. Many of her stories are so complicated it's difficult to explain without dimininishing their value, and this one is one of those. I do wish that FY Genbu Kaiden would be released more regularly. I wanna know what happens T-T. But anyways, Arata is up to chapter 60 on both onemanga.com and mangafox.com, so be sure to check it out!

Being an older Watase fan, I am excited of her switch to shonen. Reading Arata, you can see her unique shojo influence, as well as a refreshing new art style. I'm glad this manga looks exciting, and I hope she's enjoying writing it and that it goes far! I read that in Japan, there have been 4 volumes released and it is still ongoing. Can't wait to read the tankobon volumes!
Awesome!

Really good so far!!! The story is funny and the art is very Shonen like for an ex Shojo author. The charters and story are fresh and new.... Some Shonen Sunday manga dosen't last very long but... I hope this one last long!!!!

Watase is a brilliant manga artist! She ranks very highly in my list of favourites and, being more of a Shonen fan than a Shojo fan, finding this Shonen manga by Watase made me extremely happy. Upon reading it, I've found that it is in fact an excellent series and I love it. I can't wait until March when the series becomes available to buy~!
The art style is wonderful, the plot's great, and the whole series has a lot of potential. I don't expect disappointment from Arata.

It's definetely different than most manga's i've read....but...it's still good though. It's also interesting so far. I've never really been a fan of shoujo,(not at all really.) but Yuu Watase seems to be, judging by the comments, really popular. And anyways,it seems like a pretty good manga so far.I'm looking foreward to reading the next chapter's.

Sounds like this is going to be another great manga series. Oh and i also agree with one of the last posters; it would be awesome if Shonen Sunday came out with a magazine. they could make a weekly magazine for the U.S. out of it. Lets keep our fingers crossed!!!!
Real Interesting

Magazine
name:Mahiyu | posted 2009/09/22 AM10:24
I know that this has nothing to do with the manga but I think that Shonen Sunday should make a magazine in North America. You know, like Shonen Jump magazine. If you agree then post a review saying so.
Thank you

I've been a reader of Watase's stories for a long time, and IMO her early shonen stories were her best. Here she's returned to her roots and has created an absolutely compelling story that I can't wait to read more of. So far this is my favorite Watase work so far. She's combined her amazing art with an intriging story that I hope won't fall victim to the melodrama her shojo series seemed to always have. I look forward to more!

I was hooked by Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 was another fantastic installment. I can't wait to buy the graphic novels!
Also, like Jenny said, I hope Viz will license some of Watase's older works! With Arata coming up and the Fushigi Yugi VIZBIG releases, now would be the perfect time for cross-advertisement. I would love to own everything Watase's written, and there's no better company to make that happen than Viz Media.
Watase is god!

I love Yuu Watase no matter what genre she does.
Can't wait to buy up the volumes of this!
Hope you release the tankoban soon XD
Also... More Yuu Watase would be awesome. I'd love to see some of her older works be translated.
Thank you for picking up this series!!!

I was fortunate to come across Fushigi Yugi when I was in Elementary school. It was one of mine and my sisters favorite anime/manga's. And I thought for sure that this had to be by Watase! :) And to my surprise it was! I can definitely see the resemblance to a couple of her other series. Her art style has changed a bit which is why I couldn't ID her right away! I'm glad to see something new by her!
WHAT?!!!
name:Austin | posted 2009/07/24 PM07:51
What? 2010?! The book isn't released until 2010!? WHY? Oh, it's almost my favorite Yuu Watase series and I have to wait (ruffly) half a year?! (sob...)

This was a great (and long) first chapter! I was really starting to get into it, and before I knew it, I had hit the last page. Watase's writing style still shines through in this series, but from a whole new angle. I'm not a huge fan of the simplified art, but I do admire her ability to adapt. And congrats to Watase for achieving her dream of writing a shonen manga! Looking forward to everything this series has in store!

Watase Goes Shonen
name:Sesho | posted 2009/07/22 PM05:35
Really impressed by Watase's art and writing. I read some of her other manga , but didn't care much for them. She's softened up her character designs here, but echoes of her bishonen style are still in evidence (see the 12 Shinsho), but it's a cool contrast. I didn't know she could be this funny either. Well, she could be funny in her other titles but put humor in all the wrong places. The art is fantastic. She also handled the action sequences really well. I liked this first chapter a lot.
Good start
name:Geishageek | posted 2009/07/22 PM05:27
I think this is a very good start to another epic Watase Yuu series. She may be forcing the story along a but without much character development but hopefully in the next chapters we will get some more information. I look forward to reading more.
Can't wait~!

This series is by Yuu Watase, who was originally a shojo author. Fushigi Yugi and Alice 19th were some of her famous works and they both contained plenty of action that kept even male readers like myself interested. This series does the same, and it blends Watase-sensei's action oriented love stories, with the traditional elements of a shonen manga. It's well done, and is a great series.
Good start
