Ranma Saotome
The second-generation heir of the Saotome branch of Anything Goes Martial Arts. Ever since he was a child, he has been on a martial-arts training journey with his father Genma. When they went to Jusenkyo in China, he fell into the Spring of the Drowned Girl. Now, when splashed with cold water, he becomes a girl, and when doused in hot water, he changes back into a boy. He hates losing, whether it’s in a fight, gambling or love. For some reason, he’s extremely popular with the girls.
Genma Saotome
Ranma’s father. Since the incident at Jusenkyo, he can turn into a panda. He has been friends with Soun Tendo for many years, and they promised to marry their children to each other.
Akane Tendo
The youngest daughter of the Tendo household and heir-apparent to the Tendo Dojo. Due to training ever since she was a small child, she possesses a battle sense to put men to shame, but she’s not very good at girlish pursuits such as cooking and sewing.
Soun Tendo
Akane, Nabiki and Kasumi’s father. He is master of the Tendo Dojo of the “Anything Goes” school of martial arts. He’s an unfortunate soul who has been friends with Genma for a long time, and on account of that friendship been involved in all manner of trouble.
Kasumi Tendo
The eldest Tendo daughter. She handles all the household chores. Without her, the Tendo family would hardly get by. She’s a calm girl, but can be incredibly spacey sometimes.
Nabiki Tendo
The middle daughter of the Tendo household. Tatewaki Kuno, who buys semi-revealing photos of Ranma from her at high prices, is her classmate. She possesses an amazing set of principles that allow her to sell anything for money.
Shampoo
A Chinese Amazon. After losing to Ranma in a martial arts contest, she comes all the way to Japan hoping to kill him, but when she learns that Ranma is a boy, she suddenly wants to marry him? She’s whole-heartedly in love with Ranma, but her wild behavior always lands her in trouble. Water turns her into a cat.
Cologne
A Chinese Amazon and Shampoo’s great-grandmother. She runs the Chinese Restaurant, Cat Café. She calls Ranma “son-in-law” and devises all sorts of tricks to have him marry Shampoo. She possesses considerable skill as a martial artist.
Mousse
A Chinese Amazon who uses assassins’ techniques and hidden weapons. He came from China in pursuit of Shampoo. He keeps his weapons hidden up his sleeves, and is a first-rate fighter with weapons. He’s incredibly short-sighted, so when he isn’t wearing his glasses, he’s liable to attack in any direction. Cold water turns him into a duck.
Happosai
The founder of Anything Goes Martial Arts, and the teacher of Ranma’s father Genma and Akane’s father Soun. He is quite skilled, and can even immobilize Ranma with his battle aura alone. For the most part, however, he employs his powers toward stealing ladies’ underwear and being a Peeping Tom. He’s an incredible pervert.
Tatewaki Kuno
Ranma’s senior at school by one year and captain of the kendo team. His father is principal of Furinkan High School. He’s a pervert, but doesn’t call himself the Blue Thunder of Furinkan High for nothing, because until Ranma showed up, he was the greatest fighter at school. When he likes a girl, he forces his tastes upon her and rushes headlong to establish a relationship with her.
Kodachi Kuno
A high-school student at St. Hebereke School for Girls and an expert of Martial Arts Rhythm Gymnastics. She often appears in a flurry of black rose petals stirred up by her whirling ribbon, earning her the name Kodachi the Black Rose. As Tatewaki’s little sister, she can be quite a pervert, but in deviousness she far surpasses her brother. She’s head over heels for Ranma.
Ryoga Hibiki
A classmate of Ranma’s at his previous high school. He is particularly proficient with power techniques such as Bakusai Tenketsu. However, he has absolutely no sense of direction and, while pursuing Ranma, falls into a spring and can now turn into a small pig (called P-chan). He’s a most unfortunate individual.
Ukyo Kuonji
A childhood friend of Ranma who is betrothed to him. She’s a dependable girl who runs an okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) restaurant while attending Furinkan High School.
Hinako Ninomiya
A teacher at Furinkan High School whom the principal recruited for handling delinquent students. She usually possesses a childish personality, but when she changes into an adult via the Happo Goen Satsu technique she has a nice body that captures the eyes of men!
